Martha is 9 years old.<\/span>\u00a0For 10 days already, I am a guest in her family\u2019s place<\/span>. She has a very interesting character,\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>much can be said about it<\/span>, but I want to tell\u00a0<\/span>you two stories<\/span>, in which her character traits showed themselves in the most vivid way.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We went to a cafe together. We were talking and eating ice-cream. Sunlight beams fell on our table, and we moved to a cooler place. In a couple of minutes, two girls, 7-8 years old, sat <\/span>at<\/span>\u00a0that table. When we moved, Martha left her coins on\u00a0<\/span>that <\/span>table. Once the girls sat<\/span>\u00a0down<\/span>, they noticed them<\/span>. They\u00a0<\/span>hurried to gather them and\u00a0<\/span>ran to their gra<\/span><\/span>ndfather who was coming up to the table. They were jumping and laughing loudly\u00a0<\/span>while <\/span>telling their grandfather about the money they had found. The girls were so happy! They put the coins on the table, counting them over and over and\u00a0<\/span>expressing their joy loudly<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>First,<\/span>\u00a0I did not know why they were so happy and just followed them wondering. When Martha explained that she left her money there and the\u00a0<\/span>girls<\/span>\u00a0found it, I suggested her to go and take it. She refused right then, saying. \u201cLet the<\/span>m\u00a0<\/span>keep it; they are so happy.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I was happy as well\u2026 happy for Martha.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Martha<\/span>\u2019s father took<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>her for<\/span>\u00a0a tour with her\u00a0<\/span>friend<\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0<\/span>his car<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>They were so happy! It was their first tour ever. Martha\u2019s friend was so joyful that she was kicking the driver\u2019s seat<\/span>\u00a0in front of her<\/span>, in which Martha\u2019s father sat,<\/span>\u00a0laughing loudly. She was becoming even more joyful and was kicking the\u00a0<\/span>driver\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>seat in front of her harder. Unable to bear it any longer, Martha\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>father <\/span>told her to stop her friend and\u00a0<\/span>ask<\/span>\u00a0her to lower her legs. A little later he regretted\u00a0<\/span>getting<\/span>\u00a0angry<\/span>\u00a0and asked Martha, \u201cMartha, was your friend offended when I told her to stop kicking my seat?\u201d Martha replied, \u201cI did not tell her that you were angry; I just told her, \u2018Jane, can you reach the floor with your feet?\u2019\u201d Jane, who did not know Armenian and spoke with Martha in English, said, \u2018Sure\u2019 and lowered her\u00a0<\/span>legs<\/span>\u00a0right then.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Martha lives making\u00a0<\/span>people around her<\/span>\u00a0happy. The world would be\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>more beautiful<\/span>\u00a0place<\/span>\u00a0if each of us repeated the words of a\u00a0<\/span>late poet\u00a0<\/span>Misak<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Metsarents<\/span>, \u201cLord, give me happiness, an\u00a0<\/span>unselfish<\/span>\u00a0one.\u201d Martha lives in Sacramento and she does not know about\u00a0<\/span>Metsarents<\/span>\u00a0yet, but lives according to his words.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Martha is fond of dancing. She dances everywhere, even on stairs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
