AN EPISODE FROM CONVERSATION WITH AN EAGLE AND A DONKEY
I had an interesting dream today. A weary donkey is asked:
“Dear Donkey, do you know what kind of lovely places, beautiful buildings, things and marvels are around you and in the whole world? All of this is created by God; it is not handmade, and it is an exclusive masterpiece, whether a flower, an ocean, a stellar sky or a sunset.
“People have created great wonders as well. Have you ever thought about it? You are so humble. Your eyes always look down. Of course, humility is very important and a useful quality, but everything in life is beautiful within reasonable limits. People exploit your humility. You must think about it. You must lift your eyes up.
‘You know, a couple of days ago I was watching a white-headed eagle soaring, and I asked it:
“’Oh wonderful creation of God, you always enjoy life and everything that is beautiful and perfect. You enjoy the sky, the shining sun, the cliffs and the high-peak mountains. Why have I not ever seen fear in your eyes’?
“’It is because I soar in the sky. My eyes always look at infinity. I fly seven kilometers above the earth. I even overcome storms. Even though my feathers are damaged, , I overcome and soar above storms. Nothing can limit my flight. I have freedom and audacity inside. And you see in my eyes what is there inside me.’”
The donkey was listening silently and thoughtfully.
I woke up. My dream gave me food for lot of thought. We must have knowledge of times and sense of proportion. Everything is beautiful in its measure, even humility and diligence. Humility without principles creates danger of being exploited. Overtime work attaches a person to activities and deprives of the delight of fellowship with God and enjoyment of life. If we want to be successful, we must not focus on difficulties, gossips and barriers, which create hindrances. In order to fulfill the task set before us within the appointed period of time, we must be able to break through storms and soar in the sky. Even though horizon becomes a borderline where heaven and earth meet, soaring in God knows no limits.
